How do you wash tape-in human hair extensions?
Tape-in human hair extensions are easy to maintain but do require a bit of tender love and care to keep them looking beautiful! After having your tape-in hair extensions applied by one of the Pure Strands salons it’s important to understand the necessary maintenance tips to keep them soft, silky and looking good for longer.
1) BRUSH HAIR BEFORE GETTING IT WET
It’s important to brush your hair gently 2-3 times a day with a wet/dry detangling brush like the
Tangle Teezer Wet Detangler. To avoid tangling while being washed, make sure to brush your hair gently before getting it wet.
2) GENTLY CLEANSE WITH A NOURISHING SHAMPOO.
It’s important to use a shampoo that’s safe on hair extensions, using professionally prescribed care products will make sure your hair extensions remain healthy to ensure your hair extensions last a long time. One of our favourites is
Olaplex No.4. When shampooing, don’t use a scrubbing or circular motion this will tangle the hair. Instead, keep your hands flat and gently smooth the shampoo into your roots using angles as to not apply tension or friction to the tapes. Don’t worry about shampooing the mid lengths and ends of your hair, just allow the shampoo to coat the hair as you rinse the shampoo out. This will avoid over-stripping and drying out the ends.
3) APPLY CONDITIONER THROUGH THE MID LENGTHS AND ENDS OF THE HAIR.
Avoid applying the conditioner near the roots where the adhesive tape is. Conditioners, particularly rich moisturising or oil based ones may weaken the adhesive so it’s important to only apply the conditioner through the mid lengths and ends of the hair. Only use professional products like
Olaplex No.5 follow manufactures instructions in regards to the amount of time to leave the conditioner on your hair for maximum effects.
4) GENTLY BRUSH AND TOWEL DRY THE HAIR
After showering, carefully brush your hair with a wide-tooth comb or wet ‘detangler’ brush. Then use a towel to dry your hair; microfiber towels are the gentlest on the hair. Start at the top of the hair and slowly move down the shaft of the hair to the tips gently squeezing the hair to get the moisture out. Do not rub the towel into the hair as this may tangle and damage the hair extensions.
5) PROTECT THE HAIR BEFORE BLOW DRYING AND STYLING
Before blow drying make sure to apply a heat protect to protect Purestrands extensions. We love the
ghd Bodyguard Heat Protect. This will protect the hair from any heat damage caused by the blow dryer. Use a brush while blow drying and work section by section to smooth the hair in a downwards angle to get the best results. Before using any heat stylers or curlers, reapply heat protectant for extra protection.
