Living a sustainable, eco-friendly lifestyle can be difficult and expensive. However, at Beauty Bliss, we stock a range of products that can help you on your zero-waste journey without breaking the bank! The products listed are low-waste, affordable and have been tested, tried, and really do work - there is no need to compromise on quality.
Skin Products
Salt by Hendrix has a range of
skin tools that are packaged in cardboard and are relatively plastic-free. Their range of
Gua Sha's (pronounced
go sha) for example simply contain just the Gua Sha stone packaged in a cardboard box. No excess packaging here.
With an ethos of minimising packaging and reducing their environmental footprint, all
Tailor Skincare products are packaged in boxes made using FSC certified card and printed with vegetable inks, making them home-compostable. Their
Awaken Eye Cream additionally comes in a tube made from PCR plastic sourced from milk bottles and is 50% recyclable once the product has been fully used.
Trilogy is a brand dedicated to minimising their environmental footprint when it comes to creating beautiful skincare. The brand has been carbon neutral since 2007. Last year, Trilogy switched many of their products from plastic to glass (including the
Hydrating Jelly Mask, the
and the Very Gentle Eye Cream) and introduced post-consumer resin (PCR) plastic for their tube products. Further, they switched over 208,000 plastic spatulas per year to renewable and responsibly grown all natural bamboo. All packaging that their products come in is fully recyclable too.
Gentle on skin and affordable is what the The Bonbon Factory aims to be, and this holds for their face moisturiser, the
Daily Dollop, which comes in a reusable and recyclable tin. All of the Bonbon Factory products are vegan and cruelty free.
Hair
Faith in Nature Shampoo Bars are the way of the future! These bars are completely free from plastic as they come packaged in only cardboard, and the whole bar is usable. They are also vegan, paraben free, cruelty free and smell so good with their natural fragrances. A misconception that people sometimes attach to shampoo bars is that the leave hair your greasy - this is not true. Since using shampoo bars, my hair is the softest and smoothest it has ever been. To use, lather the shampoo bar between your hands and gently massage the foam into wet hair before rinsing clean.
Garnier have a range of
Fructis Hair Food Shampoo and Conditioners that come in packaging that is 100% recyclable and made with 50% recycled plastic. These honestly look like fruit smoothies and smell AMAZING so are definitely worth a try if you don't think a shampoo bar is your thing.
Body
The Bonbon Factory strikes again with their range of
body butters,
lip products and
deodorants that come in reusable and recyclable tins. They also have a range of body washes + scrubs that do come in plastic tubs, but which can be recycled after use.
Salt by Hendrix often uses glass as the main component of their body products, including the
Dream Polish and
Dream Body Oil. Their range of bath salts and soaks also come in glass jars, so you can relax and unwind with no guilty conscience. It should be noted that these products do have plastic lids and some have plastic droppers, but majority of the product is able to be recycled after use.
As well as their shampoo bars, Faith in Nature also have an
Orange Soap Bar that again, comes only in a cardboard box and is completely plastic free. This is again another great way to reduce plastic and space in your bathroom.
theBalm is a fantastic brand in that the quality is incredible, the price is affordable and (best yet), many of the products have cardboard components or metal tins instead of plastic! Almost every single powder product (such as
eyeshadow palettes,
bronzers and
blushers) comes in this cardboard packaging. While each product does contain a mirror, they still have a significantly reduced amount of plastic when compared to counterparts from other brands.
I also love theBalm products because they almost all have more than one use! For example, the Bronzers, (
Bahama Mama is my fave) can be used as a bronzer of course, but also as the perfect contour powder, neutral brow-filler and eyeshadow. Each product also has its own QR code on the back. When scanned, it takes you to a tutorial on how to use the product to ensure you make the most out of your purchase!
Eye of Horus is another brand that has put a huge focus on making their products environmentally sustainable. This goal has been reflected in how their products are packaged and the ingredients that goes into them. All Eye of Horus products are cruelty free and made of natural, organic ingredients that help your skin thrive.
Eye of Horus, like theBalm, has put all of their powder products in cardboard components (including their
eye shadow palettes,
bronzers and
blushes) which although do come with a mirror, reduce the amount of plastic as the packaging is eco-recyclable. Additionally have a
Bio Lipstick range, all of which come in fully eco-friendly, biodegradable packaging.
Garnier is a brand that still has a long way to go on their zero-waste journey, but they have just recently released several of their
famous BB creams in a more sustainable integrated cardboard tube made with 49% less plastic and 100% recyclable cardboard box that is responsibly sourced.
With more products looking as though they may make the switch to similar packaging, this a
brand to keep an eye on.
Studio MiLK is committed to growing an ethical, sustainable business supporting a waste free consumer journey - from packaging to product. Their gorgeous scented candles are made from natural soy wax - a renewable resource, originally from the soya bean. They are 100% vegetable, all natural and biodegradable.
My absolute favourite candle in the range has to be the
Salted Caramel Soy Candle - it smells like dessert and changes the atmosphere of any room it is in. There are two other scents in stock at Beauty Bliss which also smell amazing:
Baked Pear, and
Sweet Pea & Jasmine.
All Milk Studio Candles are vegan friendly and not tested on animals. Their fragrance oils are all highly purified and guaranteed to be free of phthalates, paraffin and UV inhibitors. The cotton wicks are braided with paper fibres and free of all zinc and lead.
So there is a list of some of my favourite low-waste products stocked at Beauty Bliss. Making the switch to any one of these products is you taking one step towards a more environmentally friendly, low-waste lifestyle. Your zero-waste journey does not have to be perfect and any change you make towards such a goal is taking you that little bit closer. It is important to note that every little bit counts. xx
