Over the Easter break, I spent some time in Hawke’s Bay visiting family and took the opportunity to visit the Weleda retail store in Havelock North. As a brand we proudly stock at Beauty Bliss, it was a great chance to experience their space firsthand, look at some new products, and explore their beautiful visitor garden.

Weleda in New Zealand

Weleda has a long-standing presence in New Zealand, operating from Hawke’s Bay since 1955. Located in the foothills of Te Mata Peak, their New Zealand headquarters is home to both their production facilities and biodynamic gardens.

The brand grows many of the key ingredients used in its natural medicines and skincare products on-site, following certified biodynamic farming principles. This approach focuses on sustainability, biodiversity, and working in harmony with nature, without the use of pesticides or artificial fertilisers.

A particularly impressive aspect is the proximity of the gardens to the production facility. With only a short distance between harvesting and processing, the integrity and quality of the raw ingredients are carefully preserved. Their manufacturing processes also meet strict GMP pharmaceutical standards, ensuring consistently high-quality products.

The Retail Store and Visitor Gardens

During our visit, we explored the self-guided visitor garden experience located right outside the retail store. The garden is thoughtfully themed around the plants used in Weleda natural skincare and remedies, and it offers an engaging way to understand where their ingredients come from.

As we walked through, we found information panels explaining not only the plants themselves, but also Weleda’s wider approach to biodynamic gardening, soil health, and biodiversity practices. It felt less like a traditional garden and more like an immersive learning experience.

The kids especially loved seeing the fish in the pond, which added a lively and calming touch to the space. We recognised many of the plants from some of Weleda’s most well-known products. These included Oat (Avena Sativa), used in their Sleep & Relax Drops, Calendula, which is widely used in their baby care and eczema creams, and Chamomile, a key ingredient in the much-loved Weleda Skin Food range.

It was a beautiful reminder of how closely connected the brand is to nature, and how those ingredients are thoughtfully translated into everyday skincare and wellness products.
